Super Bowl + Wings = Love (ok for Seahawks fans too….) ;)

Bill Belichick, Tom BradyIs everybody ready for the big day?  Even if you aren’t a football fan, it’s still fun to watch the ads, and (sometimes) the halftime show.  Plus, it’s a great reason to have an all-out snack fest!

I read the average Super Bowl viewer will indulge in over 3,000 calories during the game.  OUCH!  That’s a lot!

Well, you can minimize the tight waistband effect by only indulging in what you truly love and modifying traditional calorie & fat laden treats.  Here’s a lightened up version of everybody’s fave: wings!  By boiling the chicken, draining the fat and then broiling them will reduce the fat and still leave you with nice crispy wings.  Flavor up with hot sauce and spices!

.Preheat broiler to high. Place 2 pounds chicken wings (split at the joint) in a large pot and fill with water, covering wings by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil, then continue to boil for 10 minutes. Drain. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine 1⁄4 cup hot sauce (Siracha, Tobasco…), 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, and 3 tablespoons low-sodium chicken broth. Feel free to add any spices you like – cayenne pepper, cumin, maybe even some cinnamon – be creative! :)

Transfer wings to a broiler pan and broil, 5 to 6 inches from the flame, until the skin begins to blister and brown (5–6 minutes). Turn wings over and broil 4 to 5 minutes more. Transfer wings to a baking sheet, drizzle with the reserved sauce, and toss well to coat. Place the baking sheet under the broiler for 1 minute to heat the wings and sauce together.

Remember, even if you do over do it and feel OVER inflated, it’s only one day!  Extra salt and calories might make you feel bloated, but you will not suddenly gain pounds of fat!  Drink lots of water and get right back on your normal, healthy plan the next day!  OK!
